Target Inquiry at Miami University (TIMU) is a 2½-year program designed to meet the professional development needs of high school chemistry teachers while responding to the National Science Education Standards’ call for programs that focus on inquiry integrated with learning, pedagogy, and student knowledge.
TIMU is for high school chemistry teachers who wish to earn an M.Ed. in Adolescent Education or simply earn 15 credits in graduate chemistry education course work. TIMU is designed to 1) provide teacher participants with an authentic chemistry laboratory research experience, and 2) facilitate the integration of their research experience into their classroom through the design, implementation, and evaluation of inquiry-based curriculum.
The Target Inquiry model was developed, implemented, and tested by Drs. Deborah Herrington and Ellen Yezierski at Grand Valley State University (GVSU). Visit the GVSU TI website to learn more about the work produced by TI teachers and how TI at GVSU is expanding to include biology, geology, and physics as well as chemistry.
